Say Cheese? Not So Fast! Aldi's Brie Recall Due to Listeria Concerns

Attention, cheese lovers! If you've recently picked up Brie or Camembert from Aldi, it's time to check your fridge. Savencia Cheese USA has issued a voluntary recall of select soft-ripened cheeses due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious health issues.

What's the Deal with Listeria?

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can lead to listeriosis, an infection particularly dangerous for pregnant individuals, newborns, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. In severe cases, it can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, or life-threatening infections.

Which Cheeses Are Affected?

The recall includes the following products, all with a "Best Buy" date of December 24, 2024:

  • Emporium Selection Brie (8 oz)

  • Supreme Oval Brie (7 oz)

  • La Bonne Vie Brie (8 oz)

  • La Bonne Vie Camembert (8 oz)

  • Industrial Brie (8 oz)

  • Market Basket Brie (8 oz)

These cheeses were distributed to select regional stores, including Aldi and Market Basket. Retailers are currently removing the affected products from their shelves.

What Should You Do?

If you have any of the recalled cheeses, do not consume them. Instead, return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Even if you haven't experienced any symptoms, it's better to be safe than sorry.
